For quite some time now, the issue of illegal immigrants has been one of the issue being addressed by Americans. The recent unaccompanied children crossing into the United States through Texas border has been one issues dividing Texas border lawmakers. The U.S. Rep. Henry Cuellar, D-Laredo, and U.S. Sen. John Cornyn, a Republican, filed a bill stating the helping of this illegal immigrant with equality under the law as well as reuniting them with their family irrespective of where they come from. According to the writer, this measure would amend a 2008 provision in the William Wilberforce Trafficking Victims Protection Reauthorization Act that requires unaccompanied minors coming to the U.S. from Central America receive greater legal protections than those from Mexico or Canada. The issue is that those illegal immigrants from Central America might in recent year face deportation and how is it possible for the United State to treat minors who are probably between the age bracket of 8-14 years, who knows little or nothing about the law and in many case without an attorney in an unfair manner by sending them back to their previous condition which no one knows if it is dangerous to their health. Currently the law mandates that the Department of Homeland Security process the Central American minors before handing them over to the Department of Health and Human Services and the Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR), which places the children with a relative or guardian until they appear before a judge. Most time the wait could be 3 to 4 years but the legislation has ordered for additional 40 immigration lawyers to help hasten the process before any action can be taken. I really enjoyed reading this article because i'm a legal immigrant and i understand how lots of people from all over the world wants to live in the United State.
